However there’s confusion as as to whether each of those situations are the identical or signify two totally different situations. Many individuals consider that they’re synonyms of one another and usually are not totally different situations.

This text is to make clear this doubt.

Greevastambha vs Manyastambha: Similar or totally different situations?

Positively each Greevastambha and Manyastambha are totally different. The explanations are as under talked about.

Title of the illness

Each these situations have totally different names – Greevastambha and Manyastambha. They’ve been talked about as totally different entities and haven’t been talked about as synonyms of one another.

Separate point out amongst Vata Nanatmaja Vyadhis

Each are Vata Nanatmaja Vyadhis i.e. particular issues brought on by aggravation of ‘solely vata’ with out the involvement of some other dosha i.e., pitta or kapha. Each these situations are individually talked about amongst Vata Nanatmaja Vyadhis, one after the opposite.

By Definition of Manyastambha

Manya has been outlined as ‘manya greeva paschad bhaga’ which suggests ‘posterior a part of the neck – again of the neck’. Right here it’s attention-grabbing to notice that each phrases ‘greeva’ and ‘manya’ have been talked about within the phrase derivation / definition of the phrase ‘manya’ within the context of rationalization of manyastambha – Madhukosha Commentary on 51ST verse of Chapter 22 of Madhava Nidana Vatavyadhi Nidanam chapter. This clearly signifies that each are two totally different entities.

Place / website of prevalence

By definition of Manya within the context of Manyastambha, as defined above, it may be inferred that –

–         Greeva is a time period which incorporates the ‘complete neck area’
–         Manya is part of the neck, – ‘the posterior a part of the neck’

From perspective of ‘Kapha related variant’

As defined above, each situations i.e. Greevastambha and Manyastambha are talked about as separate illness entities amongst the listing of eighty vata nanatmaja vyadhis. Each are predominantly brought on by vata aggravation.

However the rationalization of pathogenesis of ‘Manyastambha’ by Grasp Sushruta signifies a ‘kapha part’ being concerned.

The reason goes like this – ‘Each vata and kapha, primarily kapha among the many two, will endure aggravation because of extreme consumption of or publicity to the etiological components which result in their imbalance. This kapha would envelope vata and block it and interferes with regular functioning and actions of vata. This situation known as as kaphavruta vata. These occasions result in manifestation of stiffness and different signs within the bottom of the neck. This situation known as as Manyastambha’.

So, Manyastambha happens in two kinds –

1.    Attributable to aggravation of vata affecting the manya area
2.    Attributable to vata being obstructed by kapha within the manya area

These variants, particularly the kaphavruta vata situation, usually are not seen in Greevastambha.

So, Greevastambha is only a vata situation whereas Manyastambha is usually a vata predominant or vata-kapha predominant situation.
